Last Month I posted my Top 5: Highspeed Photographs but it seems I missed out Alan Sailer who would certainly have made it somewhere near the top.
‘Elephants Shouldn’t Ice Skate’ is part of a series of photographs where Sailer sets about destroying ugly pieces of ceramic.
Whilst most people would shot a paintball from a gun Sailer shots at the paintball with an air rifel.
All his images capture the best part of the action, ‘Shatterbow’ above is a an exploding test tube filled with coloured gelatin.
Some of his experiments involve trays full of colourful items mid flight in the aftershock from a small metal pellet.
Still life is slightly more subtle. The fruit arrangement conjurers up images of a peaceful studio with contemporary painters, the thought of an orange suddenly exploding is erratic and humourous.
Not only does Alan shoot normal ammunition at his targets, but batteries too. He’s named this shattered bauble ‘Perfect Photo’ and I agree.
If you’ve enjoyed these there are literally thousands more to the same quality on his Flickr.
