Guy Laramée

Book sculpture are quite popular, a giant book maze recently appeared at the South Bank centre as well as a number of caves and turrets constructed elsewhere, but Guy Laramée, instead of going for big, takes out his carpentry tools to sculpt detailed paper landscapes.

I love books, especially big hardbacks with amazing covers like this one (I rarely open books more than 5° to keep them looking nice and have a collection of blank books that are too nice to write in) so it surprised me to find I didn’t object at all to their being defaced, perhaps because they still retain their beauty with something more added, and nothing is lost after all, as the text is preserved through other copies.

The scenes that reflect the content of the book are great, particularly this one where the cover and landscape are so similar.

Guy has a great selection of photos on his site
